What I’m Packing
Being a veteran of hot and steamy weather here in Georgia, I know that dressing comfortably yet fashionably can be a challenge in muggy conditions. I’m primarily packing cotton or cotton blend pieces for ALA Annual to stay cool in the heat, but I’m also packing some lightweight cardigans since the air conditioning sometimes can be a bit strong. I like to bring primary neutral pieces in khaki, caramel, silvers, and grays since they are easy to accessorize; however, I also am bringing a few pieces in modern red and coral, this year’s hot new colors, to add a little punch to my wardrobe. I am primarily bringing dresses, a few skirts, and some sleeveless tops since I’m primarily either in presentations or committee meetings although I have some casual pieces I have for afterhours. As much as I love my running, I’ll be leaving the workout gear at home and take advantage of the travel time for a few rest days!
Footwear: I’m really trying to be practical this year and not pack too many pairs of shoes. I will be bringing some flat yet casually dressy Born sandals as well as a pair of metallic Born wedges that can go easily from day to evening outings and still keep my feet happy. For flying, I like to wear a pair of J. Crew flip flops because they are comfortable and easy to slip on/off at security.
Accessories: I’m trying to limit myself to one fedora—-I love how hats add a little flair to your wardrobe, but as someone who is sensitive to the sun, hats are a great addition to sunscreen (I love Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Daily Sunblock, SPF 70—layers great under your foundation or powder) for protecting my face from the hot rays. I’ll bring a few essential J. Crew necklaces that I adore and that go with practically anything as well as a funky new Anthropologie ring I scored on clearance (I am all about the sales) that will add an earthy element to several outfits. I will probably also bring a couple of scarves—these dress up any outfit and can double as a shawl indoors if needed.
Lip Gloss: I am a serious lip gloss junkie, but I’ll be limiting myself to a few new favorites for ALA and ISTE. I highly recommend Stila’s new Coconut lip stain—this is a gold rose that can be applied for varying intensity; I also like the Stila shimmer lip glosses in Sunlight and Kitten—these are great alone or layered with the Coconut lip stain. I also like Clinique lip glosses because they have great pigments plus SPF 15—-Sunset is a great neutral as is Lancome’s Color Fever gloss in Sunbaked Coral.
I’ll try and post pics of outfits throughout my stay in New Orleans, and I hope to see you in person at one of my presentations!
